But you know what can tell us more about who we truly are than any of those stereotypes? The toys we love to play with. So we took the liberty of gathering data on which toys are most popular in each state this holiday season. Is your home more of a Play-Doh or a LEGO state? We’ll let you read the results before we pass them on to Santa. If you thought we’d left these bright plastic guns behind in the ’90s (along with Starter Jackets, Goosebumps, and VHS tapes), you were wrong. Nerf was cool when your parents were kids and when you were a kid, and it’s still cool today. Nerf guns are the most popular Christmas toy in 11 states! That’s more than one-fifth of the US! If you live in one of the following states, it’s Nerf or nothing.

Arkansas Colorado Hawaii Idaho Indiana Montana New Mexico Oklahoma South Dakota Wisconsin Wyoming

What do these states have in common, besides their desire to blast foam darts at each other? Well, their first letters are an anagram for “Wow, mini cash!” Other than that, we’re at a loss. The Switch ranks as the most popular Christmas toy of 2019 in the following states.

California Nevada Texas Utah Washington, DC (we know it’s not technically a state, but it’s a state in our hearts)

So if you live out here in the Wild West, then your kid—or your spouse—is probably more interested in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate than Fingerlings (whatever those are, Alaska). And great news: since the Switch first came out, Nintendo’s improved the battery life considerably. Sometimes it pays to not buy a game system right away! American Girl Dolls dominate in historically minded New England, taking the top spot in the following states.

Connecticut Massachusetts New Hampshire Vermont

Meanwhile, folks down South prefer the classic and versatile Play-Doh. (Who needs a fancy American Girl when you can mold your own doll?)

Alabama Iowa Mississippi South Carolina

Arizona, Florida, and Washington are buzzing about the  Toy Story 4 Buzz Lightyear action figure. Nebraska and Kansas are obsessed with these little plush critters called  Scruff-a-Luvs. Kentucky and Rhode Island have found common ground in their love for Owleez. Tennessee, Maryland, and Michigan are keeping things classic with the  Barbie Playset.
